Art Deco geometrics

The latest Spoonflower design challenge is called 'Neutral Geometric Wallpaper' so I decided to create this tonal linear triangle design. It is inspired by the designs of the Art Deco period and I decided to use a colour palette of soft pinks and blush.

This print would look great on a feature wall in a living room, or as a statement in a bathroom.

The teal and turquoise palette is lovely and fresh.

It looks great as a scatter cushion which can be bought ready-made in my Spoonflower shop.

The yellow colour palette is bright and summery.

It works well as cocktail napkins, perfect for a late summer drinks party.

The grey version is soft and sophisticated.

It's perfect for using as napkins at a dinner party.

Bedroom bliss

What is your favourite room in the home? Mine is my bedroom. It's like my nest and my haven where I can chill out and feel relaxed. I love to surround myself with pleasing ornaments, artwork and scented candles. With this in mind I decided to create a piece of artwork depicting the perfect bedroom scene with crisp white bedding, co-ordinating scatter cushions in shades of terracotta, mustard and grey and a soft pink colour for the wall.

Plants, books and artwork surround the bed and a nice hot cuppa sits waiting for its recipient.

This artwork is printed onto a lovely thick water-colour paper and would make a great housewarming gift. Each artwork is sealed in a plastic envelope, gift wrapped in pink tissue paper and sent in a hard-backed envelope.

A trio of summer clutches

Anyone who knows Cheeky Leopard, knows that I love a bit of colour, but I also realise that bright colours are not for everyone. Recently I have been focusing on trying out some softer colours for summer and have been very happy with them!

Each of this trio of beauties incorporates a number of fabrics, which I have collected from many different sources. It's a lot of fun to play with the fabrics and work out which ones go well together. Some of the fabrics come from couture fashion or home dec, others are vintage Japanese obi and kimono fabrics, but in each case I put the fabrics together simply because I feel that the colours work so nicely with each other.

Each clutch has a detachable chain handle and you can find them in my store here.

This clutch uses shades of gold, cream and beige and the fabrics I used are a combination of couture fabrics, home dec fabrics and Japanese fabrics.

I gave it a fab green taffeta lining.

This clutch uses a pink Japanese obi fabric mixed with a black and white kimono fabric.
I love the pretty colour combination.

The lining of this bag has a modern pink and white blossom print which I designed to go with the Temptations group by Makower UK.

This clutch uses beautifully soft pink fabrics, with a tiny hit of gold.

I do love a flash of colour for the lining so gave this bag a bright burgundy lining to counteract the softness of the outside.

The latest addition

This is the latest addition to my store. It's a clutch bag with a detachable chain handle and is quite different to many of the other items in my shop, which tend to be brighter and more vibrant.

This one is made from a pretty soft pink vintage Japanese obi fabric (the 'belt' that goes around the kimono), pieced together with a pretty modern silk fabric, which has a sketchy black and white swirl design on it.

The black and white silk fabric was given to me by couturier Jacqueline Kilpatrick who I wrote about a while ago. You can read about my visit to her studio here. It has taken me a while to go through the amazing selection of fabrics she gave me, but this is the first finished product and I love it!

You can find it in my store here.

Fave fabric Friday

This Friday's fabric choice is a beautiful vintage Japanese obi. The obi is the sash that goes around the kimono and often comes in vibrant colours. I love the way that Japanese women mix their obi with their kimono, often in very differing shades and designs, but they always look stunning.

I picked this one up at an antique market in Tokyo and loved the vintage pink mixed with vibrant red, turquoise and gold. I'm still working up the courage to cut it up and make it into a clutch and at the moment I'm looking for the perfect lining fabric to match. A pretty kimono perhaps? I have a lot to choose from!

Pretty in pink and grey

Soft pinks and greys are a popular colour combination this spring/summer with anything from beautifully floaty Valentino dresses to soft leather brogues on Etsy being inspired by the palette. I recently added two clutch bags to my store which have also been inspired by this soft colour palette. You can find them here.
