Palm Springs

 'Palm Springs' is the latest prompt for the Spoonflower design challenge and this is my entry. It includes Mid-Century architecture and cars surrounded by palm trees and cacti in a pleasing sunset colour palette. You can vote for my design here.

This print would look great as a Palm Springs wallpaper on a feature wall. There are lots of options available, from peel-and-stick to pre-pasted and even a lovely grasscloth version with a fabulous texture.

I love the combo of coral pinks and burnt oranges against the teal and sage colours of the architecture and cars.

Looks great on a feature wall in the bedroom.

The vinyl version is great for high traffic areas such as the kitchen or hallway.

There's even a metallic gold version if you're feeling really bold!

The gold really shines when light hits it.

True blue

The latest design challenge from Spoonflower is called 'Floral Block Prints' so I decided to create this floral repeat pattern using a woodblock print style. I wanted to keep it simple in colour so I used a soft blue on a cream background which makes it very versatile for home decor. You can vote for my design by clicking on the link here.

Florals are great for creating a serene bedroom vibe and the floral duvet cover would help create that feeling of serenity. It's made from an Italian cotton sateen fabric and comes in three sizes.

If the duvet cover is too much, why not just go for an accent with this floral sheet set. It's also made from Italian cotton sateen and comes in six sizes. The set includes a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and has two matching pillow covers.

Scatter cushions are a great way of adding touches of pattern to a room and these floral throw pillows are perfect. They come in two sizes and come in a variety of fabric options including canvas, linen and velvet.

Curtains are another way of bringing accents of pattern into a room and these floral curtain panels come in three sizes. They can be bought in two different canvas fabrics and are available in three different sizes.

Bold florals

'Bold Florals' is the prompt word for the latest design challenge from Spoonflower so I decided to use this bright red floral design as my entry for the challenge. The floral square pillow makes a great statement to any room and comes in several fabric choices.

The floral throw blanket comes in two fabric choices - a soft minky fabric or a performance velvet fabric.

 

Monster mash

 Novelty aliens designed for a recent Spoonflower challenge called 'Monster Mash'. I used fun novelty aliens in a bright colour palette on a black background.

It looks great as a feature wall in a kid's bedroom.

Non directional wallpaper

This week's Spoonflower design challenge prompt word is 'Non Directional Wallpaper' and I designed this print for the challenge. It uses loose, organic shapes in tones of coral, grey, ochre and blue.

This print would look great paired with a blue velvet sofa.

Beautiful buttercups

 This week's Spoonflower design challenge is 'Buttercups Home Decor' so I designed these happy white buttercup silhouettes on a bright yellow background. You can vote for this design here.

Doodle bugs

 Last week's Soonflower design challenge was 'Doodle Bugs' so I created this loosely-drawn print incorporating, beetles, ladybirds, moths and butterflies.

I can't decide which background colour I prefer....

This print would look great on the wall of a child's bathroom.

It would also look great as a feature wall in a child's bedroom.

Spring florals

 Spoonflower teamed up with East Fork pottery company for last week's design challenge where the task was to use the new colour glazes from East Fork's collection, called Piglet and Butter. I chose to create this spring floral and tried it in both colour palettes but can't choose which one I like the best!

The pink floral version looks great as a wallpaper.

This loosely drawn floral looks nice and fresh as a white silhouette on the soft colour backgrounds.

The yellow floral version would look great on an Easter tableware.

Spoonflower design challenge

 Last week's Spoonflower design challenge was 'passementerie' which means an ornamental edging or trimming made of braid, cord, beading or metallic thread. I decided to do a brightly coloured version of this, including pompom trim, tassels and braided trim, hand-drawn and in a stripe layout.

I decided to match the colour palette to my pompom design.

These prints could be used as wallpaper in a craft room.

Big bold designs that add colour to any space.

Spoonflower design challenge

 Last week I joined the Spoonflower design challenge which was 'Hidden Whimsy Wallpaper'. My entry was this turquoise damask. From a distance it looks like a traditional damask print but look closer and you will see that it's made up of lots of little folk birds!

I coloured this damask print in the same colour palette that I used for the peacock print as I think they would make greta complimentary designs in the home.

It also matches this peacock scallop design.

This moodboard shows how all the designs could work together and I've included images of deep turquoise painted walls that add drama to the home as well as complimentary colour chips in navy and chartreuse which I see working as accents in accessories in velvet and boucle fabrics.

Kitchen wallpaper

The prompt word for a recent Spoonflower Design Challenge was 'room specific wallpaper' so I chose the kitchen as my inspiration and created this kitchen print. It comes on a navy blue background and includes utensils, enamelware and appliances in a bright colour palette. You can buy this print on a variety of fabrics and wallpapers in my Spoonflower shop as well as on a variety of ready-made items such as tablecloths, napkins and tea towels.

It looks great in this kitchen with matching blue cabinets!

Sweet treats

 The latest Spoonflower design challenge is called 'Delicious Ditsy' and I couldn't resist creating this sweet treats print for it. I'm a cake-lover and these tasty morsels, with their pink icing na cherry on top are irresistible. A ditsy pattern usually has two characteristics - tiny and with a multi directional layout, which makes the very easy to use on a wide variety of craft projects. This print would be great for using for an afternoon tea table cloth or napkins, or for making into an apron for the baker in your life.

Joyful Jungle

A recent Spoonflower design challenge was called Joyful Jungle and I submitted this rather fabulous leafy print. The black background adds to the drama and it's got a marvellous moody feel to it.

This print would look great as a wallpaper print where you can truly immerse yourself in a tropical wonderland. It looks great with this green velvet sofa.

This print would also look great as a lampshade. I love the copper lining which adds warmth and drama.

And I recently drew this illustration for a drawing challenge with The Tuesday Collective on Instagram. I love this print used as a skirt design and it coordinates so well with the leather jacket.

Fika

 Fika is the word for coffee break in Swedish and it's the inspiration for the latest Spoonflower design challenge. My entry includes modern graphic coffee mugs combined with enamelware coffee pots and brightly-coloured espresso pots. Sewing Love

 This week's Spoonflower design challenge is called 'Home Hobbies'. My home hobby and my work both involve sewing and so I naturally had to do a sewing design for this challenge. I fell very lucky to work at something that I also enjoy.

In this design I've used a colour palette of red, orange, blue and pink and have included sewing items such as scissors, thread and pins as well as the obligatory mug of tea and a few biscuits to keep me going.

This design could be used for home accessories such as cushion covers or a tablecloth, or you could go really bold and use it as a wallpaper print in your sewing room.
