Fabulous floral

I originally designed this floral in a simple colour palette of blue and white, but I thought it would be interesting to try it in a bright colour palette and I'm really happy with the results! I chose a hot pink and bright orange and added yellow and turquoise. The cream background brings out the colours beautifully. This design was inspired by block printed florals that give it s stylised feel.

This floral print looks great as a cushion cover. It's a great way of adding colour to the home and can be mixed with other cushions in solid colours such as orange or hot pink to add variety to a living space.

This floral print can be bought by-the-metre and made into anything you want. There is a wide selection of fabrics on offer, but I especially love the linen cotton canvas.

The floral print is great for using in the home on tableware such as this table runner. It comes in three different lengths and would be great for decorating a table at a garden party.

Another way of adding colour to the living space is with throw blankets, such as this one. It comes in a velvet fabric but can also be bought in a minky fabric.

Sheet sets are a great way of adding colour to the bedroom and these are fabulous! They are made from a cotton sateen fabric and come with a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillow covers.

True blue

The latest design challenge from Spoonflower is called 'Floral Block Prints' so I decided to create this floral repeat pattern using a woodblock print style. I wanted to keep it simple in colour so I used a soft blue on a cream background which makes it very versatile for home decor. You can vote for my design by clicking on the link here.

Florals are great for creating a serene bedroom vibe and the floral duvet cover would help create that feeling of serenity. It's made from an Italian cotton sateen fabric and comes in three sizes.

If the duvet cover is too much, why not just go for an accent with this floral sheet set. It's also made from Italian cotton sateen and comes in six sizes. The set includes a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and has two matching pillow covers.

Scatter cushions are a great way of adding touches of pattern to a room and these floral throw pillows are perfect. They come in two sizes and come in a variety of fabric options including canvas, linen and velvet.

Curtains are another way of bringing accents of pattern into a room and these floral curtain panels come in three sizes. They can be bought in two different canvas fabrics and are available in three different sizes.

Bold florals

'Bold Florals' is the prompt word for the latest design challenge from Spoonflower so I decided to use this bright red floral design as my entry for the challenge. It consists of loosely drawn flowers and butterflies on a bold red background. Voting is now open and closes on the 8th April. You can click on this link here to vote for my design.

The floral square pillow makes a great statement to any room and comes in several fabric choices.

The floral throw blanket comes in two fabric choices - a soft minky fabric or a performance velvet fabric.

Fabulous florals

I'm loving this juicy floral design which comes in a palette of jewel tones on a deep purple background. This floral print is available in my Spoonflower shop on a variety of bedding.

This floral print is available in my Spoonflower shop on a variety of bedding choices such as this purple floral duvet cover which is made of a sateen fabric and comes in three sizes.

It's also available as a floral sheet set.

If a whole sheet set of duvet cover is too much, why not use this print as an accent colour? It looks great as a floral throw pillow.

It also comes on this floral throw blanket, available on a cosy minky fleece or as a luscious velvet fabric.

Deco florals

I recently mentioned a collection I designed for Makower UK which was called Revival and was inspired by the styled florals of the Art Deco period. The collection comes in two colour palettes (one rich and one bright) and this is the richer colour palette which uses reds, rusts, mustard yellow and olive green.

The main design is a floral which incorporates decorative stylised flowers in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours. The idea was to have full coverage and to use all the colours of the palette. This version comes on a deep brown background.

Co-ordinates are essential to this group and I wanted to vary the scale and coverage of each. I've included a mini, multi floral, a leaf scatter on a mustard yellow background and a stylised fan design in shades of pink.

This outline floral is highly detailed but the pared down colour palette keeps it subdued.

The main floral also comes on a slate blue background.

The mini floral as also been designed in shades of blue, orange and green. Its complimented by the leaf scatter on a green background and the stylised fan print in shades of mustard yellow and ochre.

Other coordinates include a tonal vine print, away stripe print and a fabulous multi colour tessellation print.

Fabulous florals

I recently designed this collection for Makower UK called Revival which was inspired by the stylised florals of the Art Deco period. There were two colour palettes used and this is the brighter version which comes in vibrant shades of turquoise pink, orange and lime green.

The main design is a large floral which has a wide variety of flower shapes and decorative leaves. This colour version comes on a turquoise background.

The co-ordinates were designed to enhance and use along side the main design and I used colour combinations taken from the main design. The co-ordinates included leaf sprigs, packed florals and a geo fan design, reminiscent of Art Deco motifs. The selection above come in a juicy selection of pink and orange.

The design above was created to include a softer tone of the collection within the group.

A multi colour stripe is always a good inclusion in a collection and can be used as binding on a quilt or as a contrasting lining for a bag.

The main floral design also comes on a white background. This would be great for making apparel or accessories with.

These co-ordinates are the same designs as the pink and orange versions, but come in a shades of turquoise and green.

I love this detailed floral outline print, great for using as a lining fabric or backing to a quilt.

This tessellated print is beautifully bright and uses all the colours from the collection in it. It is also great for using as a backing for a quilt or as an edging.

Jewel tones floral

I added this juicy jewel tones floral print to my Redbubble shop recently and I love its juicy colour combo and loose hand-drawn style.

This print comes on a wide variety of products for the home including cushion covers, throw blankets and mugs which you can find in my Redbubble shop.

The floral cushion cover comes in a variety of sizes and has a zipper closure to make it easy to remove and clean. It's machine washable too!

The floral throw blanket is made from a soft fleece fabric and adds a great pop of colour to the living room as well as keeping you nice and cosy during the winter months.

You can also buy this as a floral print artwork. It comes on a selection of backings including wood, metal and canvas and comes in three different sizes.

The floral mug makes a great gift for someone special. All items can be sent straight to their recipient.

Wedding table linens

Last week's Spoonflower design challenge was called 'Wedding Table Linens' and the design needed to work as a napkin set, tablecloth or table runner adorn the table of the wedding couple's big day. I went for a hand-drawn floral print in shades of pink, peach and yellow on a crisp white background.

It looks great as a tablecloth, paired with blue crockery and pink flowers.

Jewel tones floral

I had an urge to create this hand-drawn floral in a rich jewel tones palette for my Spoonflower shop. I'm loving the hot pink and coral combo on the dark blue background and the touches of yellow give it a summery lift.

It looks great as a floral wallpaper against this rich green velvet sofa.

You can find this print in my Spoonflower shop here.

Mid-Century modern florals

One of the recent Spoonflower Design Challenges was to design a print using three colours from their cotton solids range - navy, fog and desert sun. I had a lot of fun designing a floral print for this challenge, inspired by mid-century modern florals.

The print looks great on a cushion cover that can be bought in my Spoonflower shop.

I liked the print so much I decided to try it in another colour palette using pink, blue and mustard with a hint of green.

This would look great on a duvet cover.

I used the same colour palette but tried it on a cream background.

It looks great as a minky throw, perfect for keeping warm and smart on long winter nights.

Charming Chinoiserie at Pitzhanger Manor

After a three year conservation and restoration project, Pitzhanger House is now open to the public and on Saturday I went along to check it out. The house was designed and built between 1800 and 1804 by Sir John Soane, one of Britain's most influential architects and he built it in then rural Ealing as a country retreat. He built it to showcase his skills as an architect and designed it around his eclectic and growing collection of art and antiquities. The house was also built as a place of entertainment to host dinners and large parties for clients and influential friends.

The restoration project has reinstated important structural features as well as design features, which include the dramatic marbling in the entrance hall and intricately painted ceiling in the dining room. My favourite room is the the Upper Drawing Room where they have recreated the hand-painted Chinese wallpaper.

Chinoiserie is an interior design trend once again and can be seen in many home dec magazines. The style works beautifully as a design on a statement wall.

Gucci's Resort 2019 collection was strongly influenced by Chinoiserie design.

And even Cheeky Leopard likes to use Chinoiserie-insired fabrics in its creations. This clutch bag uses a dramatic green satin fabric with a bamboo and blossom motif.
