Cute as a button

It's been a while since I've created any kimono brooches, but recently I felt inspired to create this set of cuties. Each of my brooch sets comes in a trio, using vintage Japanese kimono fabrics in complimentary colours. For this threesome I chose a colour palette of purple, red and pink and it incorporates leaves and blossoms that are so iconic in Japanese design.

Each brooch has been made using a button mould which the vintage kimono fabric is attached to. I then hand sew a felt backing to each button brooch in a complimentary colour, and then a pin is hand sewn onto the felt backing.

These brooches look great attached to the lapel of a jacket or as decoration on a handbag.

You can find theses cuties in my store here.

Kimono jewellery

I love the idea of applying kimono fabrics to jewellery and have been playing with variations over the past few weeks to see how the beautiful fabrics could be used.

My first attempt was these kimono-covered buttons that I've made into a set of three brooches. I used complimentary colours in each one so that they work as a group of three or could be used individually. I love the idea of placing them on the lapel of a jacket or using them to decorate a bag.

I've also been working on some kimono necklace ideas and so far have one in my store. It uses a stylised chrysanthemum piece that I have cut out from a vintage Japanese kimono and then bonded onto a blue leather base.

It is hung round the neck on a silver chain and makes a lovely simple statement to any outfit. It's pretty unique too!

Cute as a button

I've been busy over the last few months, creating a new product for my store and here's the finished result - cute little button brooches! Each one is covered in a pretty vintage kimono fabric, using complimentary colours. I love this summery mint green, coral and red colour palette, which comes from a pretty child's kimono that I have in my collection.

Each set contains three buttons and the backing is made from felt that has been hand sewn onto the button in a complimentary colour to the front fabric. I have then hand sewn on a brooch pin.

I'm selling these buttons in packs of three which means they can be placed together on the lapel of a jacket or used to decorate a bag or scarf. I will be adding more buttons to my store soon!
