Indian block printed fabric

I have a great selection of fabric scraps for sale in my Etsy shop. Most of them have been bought on my travels and this fabulous selection of block printed cottons was bought on a trip to India. Each piece is a has been hand printed and I've combined a palette of oranges and yellows that work really well together.

Each fabric piece is large enough to use on a small crafting project and could go towards making a quilt or could be used on small sewing projects such as bags and purses, or even cushion covers.

I love this simple chevron design in orange and red. The block print style of it means the lines are uneven in places, which gives it more movement.

Stylised yellow ochre leaves sit on a burgundy background to create colour contrast.

A lovely geo print in shades of yellow and ochre.

These fabrics work well together, with the colours complimenting each other. It would make a fabulous quilt or cushion cover, with the pieces sewn together and then stitched with a kantha stitch (running stitch) on top.

All fabric pieces are packaged in a plastic envelope and gift wrapped in pink tissue paper. If you are sending it as a gift, it can be sent straight to its recipient with an optional gift message included.

 

Custom order

Every now and then I have a client contacting me, asking for a custom order. I enjoy doing custom orders as it becomes more of a personal creative experience. I like to liaise with the customer and make sure that they get the perfect product. The most recent order was from someone who had bought a tissue holder from me in the past and wanted two more, made out of a fabulous map fabric.

He found the perfect fabric on Ebay and ordered it to be sent straight to me.

The fabric arrived in good time and I made it into two tissue holders.

The holders only use a very small amount of fabric, so not much was needed and I used a contrasting blue and brown scallop fabric as the lining.

I was glad to hear that the tissue holders arrived at their new home on Monday and were well received!

Fabric Friday

This Friday I'd like to mention a very cute little fabric I have in my collection. It's on a cream ground and is covered in sweet little Japanese girls wearing brightly coloured kimonos. I couldn't resist it! It's now in the process of being made up into coin purses, glasses cases and cosmetic bags in preparation for my trip to Tokyo in November.

I've decided to give each item a black and white polka dot lining

that compliments the outer fabric perfectly.

The two little cuties below are my favourites!

New items will be in store as soon as I can make them!

Blog mention

I'm proud to say that some of the designs I did for Makower have recently been mentioned on the Print and Pattern blog. This group is called Flo's Garden and was named after my neice!

Which came first?

A while ago I designed a group of fabric prints for Makower UK, called Chicken and Egg. 

My mum has just given me a lovely present, made from some of that fabric. It uses the blue chicken design and is beautifully edged with some of the striped fabric from the same group. It's designed to be used to line a bread basket, which is exactly what we will be doing with it tonight. It will be keeping the pitta bread warm that will accompany our Middle Eastern-inspired meal. Thanks mum!

Sakura

I'm proud to say that the fabric group I designed for Makower uk is now ready to be sold in stores and is looking rather lovely if I do say so myself! It's called Sakura and was inspired by my collection of kimono fabrics that I bought at antique markets whilst living in Tokyo.

London calling

This year is a big year for London, with the upcoming Queen's Jubilee in June and then the Olympics in August. With this in mind, I recently designed a group of London designs for Makower UK and here is the result. I'm looking forward to making some coin purses and cosmetic bags out of them, so watch this space.....

Ahoy there!

I've just added these nautical naughties to my Etsy store. 

I've had the bobble clasps for a while now and loved them, but wasn't sure what fabric to use with them. The bright stripes of the bobbles lent themselves very nicely to the nautical theme, so I matched them with corresponding blue and red anchor prints, with a contrasting polka dot lining. It's going to be very hard to part with them!
