When I lived in Tokyo I grew to love the traditional kimonos that come in amazing colours and stunning designs. I even had a lesson on how to wear a kimono - which is very involved but an amazing experience! You can read about that experience on my other blog called Katie in Tokyo. I thought I'd try my hand at a Matisse-inspired print and I'm really pleased with the outcome! I wanted to give the feel of cut paper shapes and kept it really loose in style. I've included leaf shapes as well as circles and created a layered effect on a teal background.
On a recent trip to Devon I cam across a really lovely shop called Salty's Studio in the centre of Ashburton. It's a shop that sells limited edition screen prints on a variety of items such as artwork, tea towels and cards and is owned by Sandra and Jim Salter. Jim is a graphic designer with a playful approach to bold type and simple visual icons. Sandra was an animation filmmaker and has a love of fresh, energetic brush marks and stories about food. Each item has been screen printed by them in their studio shop and the selection on offer has been beautifully curated.
I love an elephant design and so I decided to create these cute prints for my Etsy store. Each one is printed onto a lovely thick watercolour paper, gift wrapped in pink tissue paper and sent in a hard-backed envelope. You can also add an optional gift message and have it sent directly to its recipient if you wish. These prints would make a great print for a baby's bedroom wall.
What is your favourite room in the home? Mine is my bedroom. It's like my nest and my haven where I can chill out and feel relaxed. I love to surround myself with pleasing ornaments, artwork and scented candles. With this in mind I decided to create a piece of artwork depicting the perfect bedroom scene with crisp white bedding, co-ordinating scatter cushions in shades of terracotta, mustard and grey and a soft pink colour for the wall.
Plants, books and artwork surround the bed and a nice hot cuppa sits waiting for its recipient.
