Ikat evening purse

Ikat fabrics are stunning for the effect they create, but they are also technically amazing as the design is dyed onto the threads before they are woven. One day I would love to see this process in action as I can't even imagine how they being to create a design like that.

The weaving process naturally creates this characteristic blurred effect to the design. I was drawn to this fabric for its interesting colour palette. Magenta pink sits against a grey/beige, using a scroll motif.

I bought this fabric on a trip to Istanbul. As a fabric-lover, it was heaven to trawl through the bazaars, meet the shop owners and drink tea with them whilst they showed me through their array of fabrics.

This fabric was perfect for making into a stunning clutch bag and I lined it with a pretty purple cotton fabric.

Yellow clutch bag

This rather fabulous satin clutch bag is made from the wild grasses print I created for my Spoonflower shop and once printed onto a satin fabric, it truly shines! The satin brings out the colour so well and I matched the acid green of the foliage with the lining and the tassel detailing. 

Look up close and you can see butterflies and bees fluttering amongst the foliage.

The lining fabric is just as rich as the outer fabric and adds a nice contrast.

This evening purse is big enough to fit all the essentials for a night out and would make a great wedding clutch.

Obi clutch bag

 This pretty clutch bag is made from a stunning Japanese obi fabric. The obi is the 'belt' that goes around the kimono and is often made from woven fabric and comes in vibrant colours and bold designs which lend themselves perfectly to making clutch bags. With this evening purse I matched the lining and tassel to the green of the leaves in the outer design. The purse is also lightly padded to protect its contents. This is a limited edition purse and makes a great gift for someone special.
