Japanese obi clutch bag

 The obi is the 'belt' that goes around the kimono and they often come in brightly woven fabrics with bold design motifs. Their sturdy fabric and stunning designs mean they are perfect for making into clutch bags.

This clutch bag is made from a beautiful woven red and pink obi fabric with a stork motif.

It's perfect for using as a clutch bag or evening purse.

Look up close and you will see the detail included and the combination of stork motif with traditional Japanese geometric designs.

The bag is fully lined with a red cotton lining and has a matching pink tassel on the zipper pull.

 

Juicy jewel tones

I'm regularly adding satin clutch bags to my store and the most recent addition is this pretty turquoise version made from a Chinese satin. It has a butterfly motif on the outside with touches of pink in it and I decided to use the same colour pink for the lining for a flash of colour when the bag is opened. I also added a fab decorative turquoise tassel to the zipper pull.

This bag is perfect for a night out and is big enough to fit purse, phone, keys and sunglasses.

This could also be used as a handbag organiser, gadget pouch or makeup bag.

This clutch looks great with the hot pink version with the same butterfly motif.

Custom order

I recently made this custom order for a friend of mine. She needed a handbag for a wedding she is going to in Paris next week and wanted it to match a stunning royal blue dress that she has. She came round to my studio the other day and we spent some time foraging through my fabric collection. It's always fun doing that and great to remind myself of what I have! She chose the fabrics that she wanted and I made it up for her. I love it!

It is made from a black floral damask obi fabric in the centre and is trimmed with a silver obi fabric and magenta pink satin. The lining is a turquoise blue cotton.
