Fabric shopping in Surry Hills

My trip to Sydney has been fantastic. It's been a wonderful chance to catch up with family and chill out, but has also been a refreshing eye-opener for design inspiration. The wonderful thing is that, while it's cold and wintery in most parts of the world, it is warm and summery here and this is reflected in the design. I went to some fabric shops in Surry Hills today. Sadly, quite a few were closed, but I managed to see some and the rest I will just have to make do with drooling over their websites.

The most inspiring one was Cloth which is a small independent fabric shop owned by a woman who hand screen prints her own designs onto mostly natural linens. There was also Bird Textile which does a similar thing of hand printing their own designs. In both cases, the design inspiration seems to come from nature and is then stylised down to a simple two-colour print which looks fresh and modern - yum!
