Tempting tiles

On a trip to Portugal a while ago, I was intrigued by the endlessly beautiful tiles that adorn many of the walls of the buildings in Lisbon and Porto and was inspired to create this print. It's available to buy by-the-metre in my Spoonflower shop as well as on a variety of products.

You can also buy this print on a pencil case in my Etsy shop.

It's fully lined and has a white zipper closure.

It's also perfect for using as a makeup bag.

Porto - station

You can’t come to Porto and not miss the beautiful hand painted blue and white tiles that adorn many of the churches around the city. A great example of tile work can be seen at the main station in Porto where you can see the tiles up close and even touch them! As you can see from the photos, it’s a popular place!

Outside the station, a woman was selling the most gorgeous basil plants. Our guide told us that these are bought to celebrate St John’s day and you can see vendors selling them all around the city. They smell amazing!

Mexican adventure - Sanborns department store

Sanborns is a department store chain that was set up by two Americans in the early 20th century. It was originally a pharmacy but now sells all manner of items. Many of the stores are located in shopping malls or at commercial plazas, but some are situated inside elegant buildings in historic districts of Mexico’s more picturesque cities. A prime example of this is the Casa de Los Azulejos on Madero Ave. in downtown Mexico City. The building houses one of the original Sanborns stores and a large restaurant which operates on several floors. Visiting this restaurant is a bit like stepping back in time, with a violinist playing to diners who are surrounded by murals and bustling waiters.
