Salty's Studio

On a recent trip to Devon I cam across a really lovely shop called Salty's Studio in the centre of Ashburton. It's a shop that sells limited edition screen prints on a variety of items such as artwork, tea towels and cards and is owned by Sandra and Jim Salter. Jim is a graphic designer with a playful approach to bold type and simple visual icons. Sandra was an animation filmmaker and has a love of fresh, energetic brush marks and stories about food. Each item has been screen printed by them in their studio shop and the selection on offer has been beautifully curated.

I bought these two carpenters pencils which I'm looking forward to using in my next drawing class.

I little nook in the studio shop displays simple, fun artwork and products in a black and white colour palette.

Colour and style brings cohesion to this tiny shop. I love the Hello artwork.

Sandra loves to use brush marks in her work and loves stories about food.

I fell in love with this prawn illustration. It's been used on a card design and on a limited edition print.

Le petit monde

Rome-based Sara Olmos is a graphic designer who recently began exploring her illustrative side by creating these beautiful, quirky illustrations that she calls 'Le Petit Monde'. She describes her 'Little World' as being inhabited by characters who interact with objects on a different scale and in doing this, the objects take on a new meaning.

Supafrank

Supafrank is a design company that believes in products that look beautiful and work beautifully. Their tag line is "playful design that works" and they have created some very pleasing pieces. I especially love their quirky, hand pulled, screen printed creatures each with paper cut eyes. You can see more of their lovely products here.

Lover's Rock

Buenos Aires-based duo Leisha and Flaudio have the wonderfully combined talents of graphic designer, illustrator, photographer and music composer, and have used their talents to create a satisfying collection of music concept posters. Each one is beautifully simple, using pleasing colours and simple images. My favourite is "Hanging on the Telephone" - a fab image to go with a fab song.
