Japanese koi flags

I love the koi-shaped windsocks in Japan which are traditionally flown on the national holiday that is called Kodomo no hi - Children's Day - on May 5th. They are often made by painting or drawing a bright carp design on paper, cloth or other materials and they are flown all around Japan during this time.

In Japanese, these flags are called koinobori which translates as "carp streamer". These flags were originally used by samurai warriors on the battlefield. The carp image was used as they are seen as courageous and strong.

This print is available in my Spoonflower shop on two different coloured backgrounds which can be bought by the metre on a selection of fabrics, or as ready-made items.

I'm loving this wall hanging, a new addition to the Spoonflower product choice. It comes on a linen cotton canvas and includes beech wooden magnetic hangers.

The magnetic wooden hangers work as a clamp, holding the fabric at the top and bottom without damage. The frame also comes with a cotton cord as well as foam tape squares for a variety of installation options.

The white background is light and fresh and shows up the colours of the fish really well.

The print looks great on this cushion cover which can be bought in my Spoonflower shop.

Use it to decorate a child's bedroom or as outdoor cushions for the garden.

You can find them in my Spoonflower shop here.
