After a hearty brunch we headed to Polanco where Mexico City’s design emporiums and fashion boutiques are. Overshadowing this area is the awesome Soumaya Museum, a distorted hourglass structure covered in 16,000 hexagonal aluminium tiles. It houses a 66,000-piece collection featuring European and Mexican artists. On the top floor, where we started, Rodin’s sculptures are bathed in natural light from the glass roof. We then made our way down through each floor via a beautiful spiral, sloped walkway, where we saw paintings by Renoir, Degas, Lautrec and many other famous artists. Even the bathrooms were stunning with a large marble sink unit in the middle of the room and one wall covered in mirrors.
